Rim brush

The focus of the project was the development of a new product segment for Tom-Par – car wheel washing brushes. In the first stage of the project, we conducted research to understand the specifics of the product. We then made 3D models which we printed on a 3D printer. We used the printouts for ergonomic testing. We proposed a two-part handle that has an interchangeable insert for attaching various brushes. The rubber hood is not integrated into the handle, making it easier to recycle the brush. The result of the work is presented below.

User research has helped us understand their needs

We surveyed consumer needs with a group of amateurs with no experience of this type of product and with professionals working in companies specialising in auto-detailing.

We observed that the handle should not be too thick, because it is used for precise tasks, holding it a bit like a brush – no great force is required. The rounded end of the handle gives a stable and ergonomic support. The brush tip should be rubber-coated so as not to damage the surface of the rims. The ability to bend the brush makes it easier to reach hard-to-reach areas.

With a view to easy recycling

We have proposed a two-piece clickable handle that has an interchangeable insert for attaching different brushes. The rubber hood is non-integrated into the handle, making it easier to recycle brushes as all components are easily separated.
